AFI's latest list

Lists are silly -- can anyone really make a case why one of these movies ranks higher on the list than any other? That does double when the category is even mushier than "best" -- this time it's "100 Cheers," whatever that means. But the AFI lists are fun to watch on television, with all the clips and commentary, and most important, they are a good reminder of great movies. Hi Nell!

I agree completely; the main utility of these lists is to have something to take to the video store when nothing new interests you. And a list with "Hoosiers" on it -- Gene Hackman is comfort food to me -- is a keeper. Now if only they'd included "Twice in a Lifetime"...

I think that "100 cheers" means rousing, heart warming movies. It's interesting to think about the role that such movies played in fortifying the nation in times of war and stress. I'm not sure today's audiences will find solace quite so easily.

I don't know I'm sick of Spielberg just to begin and then I can begin to get really critical. There are some genuine good ones on the list though. Enough ET though. Burn the negative.
