As far as family films go, did you see Howl's Moving Castle? It actually came out in 04, but I think it got a DVD release this past year.
I think all Miyazaki's films are incredible.
Ack... still waiting for Letters From Iwo Jima here in Dallas. I have heard nothing but amazing things about that movie.
